The new Eastern Avenue studio caters to independent film and commercial production.

With Toronto studio space at a premium, a newly launched full-service production studio is aiming to improve accessibility.

AstroLab Studios, which caters to commercial, independent film and music video production, officially opened its Eastern Avenue location in February. AstroLab, located in Revival 629 Film Studios’ recently renovated Stage 16 space, has three studios ranging from 300 to nearly 3,000 square feet, as well as support spaces, office space, a post suite and a recording booth.

Founder Adam Weitner told Plaback Daily that the city’s boom in production has led to “sky-high rates” and a lack of availability, which has ultimately pushed smaller players out of the city’s studios.

“Smaller productions haven’t had a place to go,” he said. “There’s a lot of demand now and I think it’s going to continue to grow as more and more brands at all levels and creators at all levels look to start producing more video content.”

AstroLab’s studio spaces are available for hourly and short-term bookings. And in addition to providing space, AstroLab offers equipment packages, including green screens, mics and lighting.
